Mountain Equipment

  • Spanning more than four decades, Mountain Equipment's experience in equipping the world's elite for the harshest conditions on earth is legendary. They have been part of over 100 Everest expeditions, participated in every British first ascent of an 8000m peak and unsupported trips to both poles as well as in many other adventures the world over.

  • Tarka and Katie-Jane, as part of Primal Journey, have been working in partnership with Mountain Equipment for the past four years. Together they have rigorously tested products in the most inhospitable of conditions to include the forbidding Arctic Ocean, the torrid Gobi Desert, the humidity of Djibouti's barren lands and the heights of the worlds tallest mountains to name a few. On return from testing any product, they strive to develop it further, so that it performs it's role to complete pefection. But also so it contains those added extras that makes life in the great outdoors that little bit easier and more enjoyable. Across the Patagonian Ice Cap a large selection of Mountain Equipment products will support the team. To include; Kongur Jackets, Compressor Vest, Changabang Pant, Cascade Xtrafit Glove, Pro Shell Glove, Xero 350 Sleeping bags plus additional accessory items. For the project to be a success, it is critical that a sleeping bag is accurately temperature rated and that, in a part of the world that sees between 300 and 320 days of rain per year, the wet weather gear is truly 100% waterproof. It is for these reasons the team will continue to use Mountain Equipment products, for they are safe in the knowledge that the gear has been proven to perform time and time again.

Review: "The Kongur has been around for a few years now, and it regularly wins this test as no-one has come up with anything better (come on, guys) I still think it’s the best jacket here for winter walkers. It’s made from GORE-TEX Pro Shell so it gets top marks for waterproofness and condensation control. It has a little more length than other jackets, so it protects your bum more effectively than most. The front zip gets a double storm flap, unlike many others here, making it more water resistant when it really matters. Movement in the sleeves is ideal for mountaineering, while the four chest pockets allow hand-warming and storage even with a harness or rucksack belt. There are pit zips too in case you over heat. The hood is one of the best around, with clear vision guaranteed thanks to wired peak, close fit and stunning movement with the head. Superb for winter action."
